BUSH'S MISSILE "DEFENSE"SYSTEM IN POLAND CAUSES RUSSIA TO RE-BUILD ITS NUCLEAR ARSENAL

One of the predictable fall-outs from Bush's rush to set up a missile defense system in The Czech Republic and Poland came today when Russia announced it was going to beef up its nuclear deterrent system.

The BBC reports:

"The announcement comes just weeks after Russia accused the US of starting a new arms race by siting part of its missile defence shield in Poland.

""We must guarantee nuclear deterrence under various political and military conditions by 2020," Mr Medvedev told military commanders.

"He said it was necessary to build "new types of armaments" and to "achieve dominance in airspace", according to quotes carried by the Itar-Tass news agency."

So because of George Bush and his incompetent foreign policy, the whole world faces another nuclear build-up.

Can Iran be faulted if it too wants nuclear weapons as deterrents to U.S. hegemony?

NATO GOES ALONG WITH BUSH ON MISSILES AIMED AT IRAN

Instead of trying to get NATO to go along with his hair-brained scheme to put missiles in Poland the Czech Republic, Bush should try to establish friendship and comity with nations like Iran. But Bush would rather toss missiles at a country and kill its population than try to come to a detente and understanding.

Peter Baker writes in today's The Washington Post:

"President Bush won support from NATO on Thursday for his plans to build a limited missile defense system in Eastern Europe and finalized a separate agreement to station part of it in the Czech Republic.

"The twin developments represent significant advances for Bush's plans to establish a sophisticated new radar facility in the Czech Republic and station 10 interceptor missiles in Poland as a hedge against potential threats from Iran or other Middle East nations. They came just as Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has strongly fought the system, was arriving here to meet with NATO leaders."

Suppose you were an Iranian living in Teheran. How would you react to the Bush proposal to put missiles in Eastern Europe aimed at your home and country? You might wonder what type insecure and mean human being is so afraid of you and your country that he would work to set up missiles that could incinerate you, your family and Teheran's whole population in a few seconds.

PUTIN DESERVES CREDIT FOR RESISTING BUSH'S ATTEMPT TO PUT MISSILES IN POLAND AND CZECH REPUBLIC

Vladimir Putin may be an authoritarian autocrat, but he still deserves credit for standing up to George Bush and Condi Rice on the subject of putting missiles in the Czech Republic and Poland. These missiles are of their very nature destabilizing to surrounding countries. More missiles and armaments are not the answer. Raining down missiles on Iran will solve nothing. So thanks to Putin for objecting and resisting Bush's militaristic push to arm countries in the former Soviet bloc. No missiles in Poland. No missiles in the Czech Republic.
