MITT ROMNEY HAS NO SYMPATHY FOR LATINO ECONOMIC IMMIGRANTS

If Mitt Romney wins the election for the U.S. presidency, all immigrants will need to worry.  Romney says that he will make life uncomfortable enough in the United States that immigrants lacking proper documents will "self-deport."

Mitt Romney's great-grandfather fled to Mexico to escape penalties against polygamy in the United States.  Mitt Romney's father, George Romney, came back to the U.S. as a young boy.  Because of this, Mitt Romney says that his family is an immigrant family, as if to imply that he understands what it means to be a Latino immigrant.

But the truth is, Mitt Romney has no understanding or basic sympathy for the plight of Latino economic immigrants.  He treats them as mere gardeners or housekeepers.  He would rather see them all deported.

For their sake, let's hope that Obama wins in November.

MITT ROMNEY WOULD BE A DISASTER

Imagine the disaster if Mitt Romney wins the presidential election.  Mitt promises to visit Israel as his first country, he promises to dismantle the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), he promises to treat Russia as an enemy.

I wonder how anyone can support these outrageous and dangerous proposals?  How can anyone be a Republican?  How can anyone with a grain of sympathy for those who have no health insurance want to take away a plan that tries to make health care an inviolable right?

REPUBLICANS FROTH AT U.S. SUPREME COURT DECISION UPHOLDING OBAMACARE

How about all those mean Republicans and Libertarians denouncing Obamacare and saying how they will do anything to overturn it, in spite of today's decision at the U.S. Supreme Court upholding it as constitutional?

David Frum, writing in The Daily Beast, says repeal is a fantasy.

" . . . today's Supreme Court decision will make it a lot harder to elect Mitt Romney. President Obama has just been handed a fearsome election weapon. 2012 is no longer exclusively a referendum on the president's economic management. 2012 is now also a referendum on Mitt Romney's healthcare plans. The president can now plausibly say that a vote for the Republicans is a vote to raise prescription drug costs on senior citizens and to empower insurance companies to deny coverage to children for pre-existing conditions. Those charges will hurt—and maybe hurt enough to sway the election."

UN INVESTIGATOR SAYS U.S. DRONE ATTACKS VIOLATE INTERNATIONAL LAW

The Guardian has an article today about how U.N. investigators believe that drone attacks make shambles of international law.  This of course assumes that international law is real and not a fiction.

Owen Bowcott writes:



"The US policy of using aerial drones to carry out targeted killings presents a major challenge to the system of international law that has endured since the second world war, a United Nations investigator has said.

"Christof Heyns, the UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial killings, summary or arbitrary executions, told a conference in Geneva that President Obama's attacks in Pakistan, Yemen and elsewhere, carried out by the CIA, would encourage other states to flout long-established human rights standards."

The drone attacks subject Obama (and the war monger Panetta) to charges of war crimes.

Writes Bowcott:

"In his strongest critique so far of drone strikes, Heyns suggested some may even constitute "war crimes". His comments come amid rising international unease over the surge in killings by remotely piloted unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)."

OBAMA, CONDEMN BAHRAIN FOR HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS

Even though nine medical personnel are set free, an appeals court in Bahrain reaffirms prison sentences for nine other doctors and nurses, some up to five years.  Just because they treated wounded protesters calling for greater democratic freedoms for Shiites in a country ruled by Sunnis.

Moreover, Bahrain arrested an 11-year old boy for associating with a group protesting the government's discrimination, and then kept him in jail for several weeks.

Why won't Pres. Obama and Sec. Clinton come out and condemn Bahrain and its repressive monarchy?

The answer is, the U.S. Navy has its Fifth Fleet based in Bahrain, ready to bomb and attack Iran at moment's notice.   Animus towards Iran trumps American values of freedom and democracy as to Bahrain.

MAY ONE COUNTRY CROSS ANOTHER'S BORDERS TO ATTACK MILITANTS?

What do you think?  Is it in accord with the laws of nations for one country (the United States) to send unmanned aircraft across the borders of another (Pakistan) and attack militants and jihadists?  And can the U.S. do this without the permission of the second country, Pakistan?

Suppose it were in the opposite direction?  Suppose it were Pakistan that was sending armed drones into U.S. airspace?

The second question takes no little reflection. Most Americans would see it as a violation of national sovereignty and an illegal incursion.  It probably would precipitate an immediate counter-strike.

So why does Obama and Panetta think that they are justified in sending drones into Pakistan?  Is there any clearer violation of international laws?  I don't think so.

U.S. SHOULD CONDEMN GOVERNMENT PERSECUTION OF PEACEFUL SHIA DEMONSTATORS IN BAHRAIN

The U.S. government under Pres. Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton rightly condemn Syria for war crimes in the shelling and bombing of civilian cities.  But where is their condemnation of the Khalifas in Bahrain for sending out thugs in the police and army to shoot peaceful demonstrators with bird shot and choke ordinary civilians with corrosive tear gas?

Why the silence?  Two reasons.

1.   The U.S. Navy a has a big presence with its Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.  And the U.S. thinks it should maintain a military presence there as a threat to Iran just across the Persian Gulf.  But the presence of so many American warships and sailors has done little to advance the decline of influence of Iran in the area.

2.  The peaceful demonstrators in Bahrain are Shia, whereas the ruling Khalifas are Sunni.  The relation of Sunnis to Shia in Bahrain is a lopsided three out of 10.  But the Shia find themselves cut off from working for the government or securing their economic rights.  Because Iran is mostly Shia, the U.S. has credulously believed the warnings of Sunni rulers in Bahrain and elsewhere who claim that Shia in Bahrain are disloyal and a fifth column secretly promoting Iran's agenda.  They rant against Iran, and exaggerate its nuclear program as a threat because, as Sunni Arabs, they hate the Shia Persians.

Thus, the U.S. under Obama and Clinton remain hypocritically silent when it comes to denouncing gross human rights violations in Bahrain.

HOW COULD ANY WOMAN VOTE FOR REPUBLICANS AFTER RUSH LIMBAUGH?

After what Rush Limbaugh said about the female law student who was arguing for full insurance coverage of contraceptives, how could any woman in the United States possibly vote for Republicans?

It is clear that Rush Limbaugh functions as mouthpiece and spokesman for many Republican legislators if not for the Republican Party itself.  When he calls Sandra Fluke a prostitute and a slut, Limbaugh shows not only how he feels about women who disagree with his positions, but he also exposes the disdain that some Republicans, especially some Republican men, have towards intelligent women.

DON'T CAVE TO NETANYAHU ON BOMBING IRAN!

Pres. Barack Obama will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on Monday in Washington.  Netanyahu wants the U.S. government to commit itself to join in an attack against Iran.

Obama, don't cave in to that war monger Netanyahu.

Any attack against Iran will have terrible consequences for relations between the U.S. and Iranian people for the next 500 years and maybe more.  War has never solved any political disagreements between countries.

Rather, the U.S. government should look on Iran with respect and with a sincere desire to foster amicable relations.  American bombs will only kill Iranians and incite hatred and desire for revenge.

Stand up, Pres. Obama, for what is right.  Don't cave to Bibi Netanyahu.

STOP ECONOMIC SANCTIONS AGAINST IRAN

Good for Pakistan in signing a deal for a gas pipeline with Iran!

The United States has no business imposing an economic blockade on Iran and its people.  Economic sanctions are just a form of collective punishment, punishing the people for the "sins" of their leaders.  While this collective punishment does not make use of bombs and bullets, it still imposes harsh economic punishment on ordinary Iranian men, women and children.

I call upon Pres. Barack Obama and Sec. Hillary Clinton to stop the economic warfare waged against the Iranian people and end the sanctions.
