LATINOS WILL NOT FORGET OR FORGIVE REPUBLICAN SENATORS WHO VOTED NO ON SOTOMAYOR

Here are the 31 Republican Senators who voted against the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court:

John Barrasso, Bob Bennett, Sam Brownback, Jim Bunning, Richard Burr, Saxby Chambliss, Tom Coburn, Thad Cochran, Bob Corker, John Cornyn, Mike Crapo, Jim DeMint, John Ensign, Mike Enzi, Chuck Grassley, Orrin Hatch, Kay Bailey Hutchison, James Inhofe, Johnny Isakson, Mike Johanns, Jon Kyl, John McCain, Mitch McConnell, Lisa Murkowski, James Risch, Pat Roberts, Jeff Sessions, Richard Shelby, John Thune, David Vitter, Roger Wicker.

They all except one are white males who can't stand the thought that a wise Latina female judge might be smarter and more capable than they themselves.

Arguments of Orrin Hatch, Bob Bennett or Chuck Grassley that Sotomayor does not have the correct judicial mind set or uses "empathy" to analyze cases are clearly pretextual. The real reason apparent to many and especially to Latinos is that these Republicans are anti-Hispanic and anti-Puerto Rican and anti-female.

Latinos as a group are not going to forget or forgive the racist Republicans voting no on Sotomayor. Come election time, there will be Latino pay back.

LATINO VOTERS WON'T FORGIVE REPUBLICANS REJECTING SOTOMAYOR

The six Republican senators who voted against Sonia Sotomayor can kiss off any support from the Latino community. Sotomayor is Puerto Rican but even Latinos here in the U.S. from other countries like Mexico will not look kindly on the rejection of the first Latina to be nominated to become a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Republicans like John Cornyn, Orrin Hatch, John Kyl and Jeff Sessions practically reek disdain for a lady who represents the Spanish heritage and culture in the New World. This is the reason why they so strongly objected to Sotomayor's reasonable claim that she would hope a wise Latina judge would get decisions correct more often that white anglo men who had no experience in the Latin culture. Can there be any better example of anti-multi-culturalism? The Republicans illustrate a disdain and animus for anyone whose skin is darker than their lily white complexions or who speak another language, especially Spanish.

But these racist anti-feminists and anti-Latin Republicans will reap the results come next election. One thing is certain, Latinos will not forget the Republicans' condescending and dismissive behavior towards Judge Sonia Sotomayor.

MY FORMER PROF TAKES A MEAN SHOT AT JUDGE SONIA SOTOMAYOR

Republican comments about Judge Sonia Sotomayor are amazing and without basis, as when Newt Gingrich, Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh call Sotomayor a "racist."

But equally disturbing and unexpected were the comments of former federal district judge and now University of Utah law professor Paul Cassell who said on The NewsHour that Sotomayor lacks the intellectual capacity or ability to make a mark on Supreme Court jurisprudence.

Judge Cassell taught criminal procedure when I attended law school at the U. back in the year 2000, and he always was very careful to avoid his own personal political views in class.

So when he said without any basis that Sotomayor was in effect an intellectual lightweight, it was shocking. Especially because Sonia Sotamayor attended Princeton for her undergraduate degree and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Then she went on to Yale Law School. If a person is the top of her class at Princeton, she certainly has shown that she is an intellectual heavyweight.

Cassell's negative opinion offered without any evidence shows that he too as a white male would rather engage in casting political aspersions than in accepting another's appointment to the highest court, especially when that other happens to be a female Latina from Puerto Rico. I would have wished that Cassell would have magnanimously wished Sotomayor the best and, furthermore, I would have like Cassell to say what a great Justice she will make on the U.S. Supreme Court.

CHEERS FOR OBAMA'S PICK OF SONIA SOTOMAYOR FOR U.S. SUPREME COURT

Hurray for Pres. Barack Obama's nomination for U.S. Supreme Court of Sonia Sotomayor. Sotomayor is a Court of Appeals judge on the Second Circuit. She is Puerto Rican and speaks fluent Spanish.

Michael Shear, Debbi Wilgoren and Robert Barnes report for the WashPo web page:

"If confirmed, Sotomayor, 54, would be the first Hispanic Supreme Court justice and only the third woman ever to sit on the panel. She grew up in a Bronx housing project, went on to Princeton University and Yale Law School, and has stirred controversy by saying that judges' legal findings are informed by their own life experiences as well as their legal research."
